An Extraordinary Experience Through Mountains, Kasbahs, Oases, and Sahara Dunes

The 4-day tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga Desert represents one of the most fascinating experiences for those looking to discover the true face of Morocco. More complete than shorter tours, this itinerary allows you to explore at a leisurely pace the iconic places of southern Morocco: from the majestic High Atlas Mountains, passing through ancient Berber kasbahs, lush valleys dotted with palm groves, and spectacular gorges, to the heart of the Sahara Desert, among the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Day 1: From Marrakech to Boumalne Dades – Between Mountains and Kasbahs

Depart from Marrakech early in the morning, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest point of the national road at 2,260 meters. Along the way, we’ll stop to take photographs of the mountain landscapes and Berber villages nestled among the rocks.

  • Visit to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah
Explore the extraordinary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its adobe architecture and as a set for numerous international films.

  • Ouarzazate and the Rose Valley
After lunch in Ouarzazate, known as “Hollywood of Africa,” we continue to the Rose Valley, which in springtime offers a unique spectacle with its fragrant blooms. Overnight at a traditional riad in Boumalne Dades, with dinner included.

Day 2: From Boumalne Dades to Merzouga – The Gates of the Desert

After breakfast, visit the impressive Dades Gorges, known for their rock formations resembling giant fingers. Continue towards Tinghir and the Todra Gorges, one of the most fascinating canyons in Morocco, with walls reaching heights of up to 300 meters.

  • Arrival in Merzouga and Desert Adventure Begins
In the afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, a village at the gates of the Erg Chebbi Desert. Here, the Sahara adventure begins with a camel ride at sunset through the dunes.

  • Night at the Berber Camp in the Heart of the Sahara
Arrive at the Berber camp, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars. After dinner, relax by the fire and listen to local music played by desert nomads. Stay overnight in a standard or luxury tent, depending on your preference.

Day 3: Desert Exploration – Authentic Nomadic Experience

This day is dedicated entirely to exploring the Sahara Desert. After witnessing the mesmerizing sunrise over the dunes, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Visit the village of Khamlia, inhabited by Gnawa musicians, and enjoy a live music performance.

  • Explore the Mifis mines and meet desert nomad families in their camps.

  • Have lunch at a local home or a small traditional restaurant.

  • Walk through the Tissardmine oasis and the surrounding palm groves.

Return to the camp in the afternoon for another evening in the desert, with dinner, music, and overnight stay.

Day 4: Return to Marrakech – A Journey Through Landscapes and Memories

Wake up at dawn for a second camel ride or return to the Merzouga village by 4×4. After breakfast, start the return journey to Marrakech.

  • Stops Along the Way
During the return trip, there will be several stops to have lunch, relax, and once again admire the wonders of the High Atlas Mountains. We are expected to arrive in Marrakech in the evening, with drop-off at your accommodation.
